We are now becoming increasingly aware of our body and how it works. Through a varied range of activities the word core is being reiterated. We use the core to actively perform to our own level and achieve better results. Our core is our centre- where we manage movement from- i.e. our abdominal muscle and obliques, (to most of us that's our tummies and waists). To hold this area correctly we need to be able to draw our belly button into our back bone, and tighten the transverse abdominus (found by lifting & tightening in through the pelvic floor). Keeping the breast bone open & shoulders back and down will also enable the back to relax, this in turn will help us to concentrate on the core. Engaging this area will enable the body to achieve significant control, balance, strength, range of movement and improved co-ordination. A controlled even breath will assist the over all performance.
